This led me to start Every Little Piece, an online-only jigsaw puzzle retail shop and it turned out to be a wonderful and life changing decision. While small, I love providing an intentionally curated selection of puzzles focusing on smaller brands who create beautiful puzzles with human created artwork.
A quick note for extra clarity, the puzzles that I sell on my website I purchase wholesale from independent brands. I have not designed any of these puzzles (although it's certainly within my wheelhouse to do so).
What began as a way to offload a stack of inventory turned into a small business I now run entirely on my own. I customized and styled the site using a Shopify theme, and I'm intentional about the shop's visual identity, from the puzzles I choose to carry to how each product is presented.
Running the shop also pushed me into new creative territory. I shoot and edit original photography for the site and social media. I also taught myself Adobe Premiere and After Effects to produce styled, top-down time-lapse videos of completed puzzles, set to lo-fi music in a space I designed around my desk for the YouTube channel I started. This has led to collaborations with several well known puzzle brands (Cloudberries, PitaPita Puzzle Boards and Completing the Puzzle Subscription) to make user generated content, and has grown into a dedicated Instagram following of over 1,500 people.
My Instagram account has been one of my favorite aspects of starting the store. Through the account I've met an incredible community (Puzzlegram as it's called) and have made several good friends. Beyond the amazing community, it's allowed me to showcase the puzzles that I've worked on and I really enjoy figuring out the best ways to highlight each. Below is a selection of some of my Instagram posts.
Since starting Every Little Piece, I have been interviewed and written an article for the high-end puzzle brand Soonness and been interviewed for a Vox.com article about AI art usage within the puzzle industry.
